What's the best horror movie of all time and why does it scare you more than anything else?
Jan. 20th, 2026 07:29 pmI've watched countless horror movies over the years, from classic psychological thrillers to modern jump-scare-packed films. Some stick with you long after the credits roll, others fade into forgettable noise.
So, Reddit: what’s your pick for the absolute best horror movie ever made, and what makes it so terrifying or memorable for you? I’d love to hear your reasoning, whether it’s about atmosphere, storytelling, acting, or those moments that made your heart skip a beat.
Bonus points if you explain why it still holds up today!

Will there ever be another or similar movie like The Wailing?
Jan. 20th, 2026 06:21 pmMan I watched The wailing for the first time a few months ago it put me on a streak of similar movies.
Memories of Murder
The Medium
Exhuma
A Tale Of Two Sisters etc...
I just can't find a movie that just blows me away like The Wailing.
What are your thoughts, do you think Na Hong-Jin will make a movie to surpass this one ?
Also I wouldn't mind some more movies that have a similar tone.
Edit: Just had to add the scene where the MC has to choose between believing the shaman or the lady in white had me glued to the screen and it really plays with the viewer, in a sense you went through this whole journey with the MC and find yourself making the same difficult decision as him.
I just loved it.

Any comming of age horror movies that focus on friendship
Jan. 20th, 2026 07:00 pmSomething like a tale of two sisters, It, gingersnaps, I saw the tv glow and (while not a movie) the summer hikaru died.
Basically here there is a sinister mystery unfolding.

I wrote a Silksong drabble and got Silksong gifts
Jan. 20th, 2026 06:41 pmBut I did write a post-canon Silksong drabble I'm quite proud of:
Silk Snare for

Summary: Much Silk was needed to see her sustained.
Notes: One of my favorite fannish drabbles I've written, I think it works very well.
I got pretty icons under my tree: some Hornet icons by
And I also got two other Silksong gifts recently:
Sunlight Dyed by

Summary: Hornet from Silksong, depicted in stained glass
So pretty! The lights and the colors and the shapes!

Jan. 20th, 2026 11:55 am...I'll probably be fine if I have a nap first, right?
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple catchphrase?
Jan. 20th, 2026 05:47 pmSo I saw the movie and I loved it! I won’t go into spoilers or a huge discussion, but damn Jack O’Connell was an evil and charismatic villain. I know it’s wrong but I can’t help but make “How’s that?” may catch phrase now 😹
Who’s with me?
Bonus points for kaiju fans, Jack O’Connell is going to be in the next Monsterverse movie!!

TV Tuesday: Well, I Didn't Know That

Do you watch educational TV shows or documentaries? What makes these shows watchable or interesting to you? Are there particular ones that spoke to you?
House of wax (2005) finger scene gone?
Jan. 20th, 2026 05:21 pmI was watching house of wax on prime today and they didn’t show the girls finger getting snipped. I explicitly remember you actually see the wire cutters clip it. Is this only in the directors cut? Or did prime randomly decide to edit out this scene. If so wtf, now they just get to censor shit to their liking without explicitly stating it’s a prime edit. If it was free ok but I paid to rent it.

Origin of ‘static scream’ and where to find more?
Jan. 20th, 2026 04:53 pmIt’s hard to explain but sometimes I hear this staticy bit-crushy scream in horror movies, typically in slow burners, used at the climax. It never fails to scare me and give me chills
Does anyone know the origin of this sound effect/style and where I can find more movies that have this sound?
For reference, you can hear it in Red Rooms (2023), The Lighthouse (2019) and Best Wishes to All (2022): https://postimg.cc/PPLBRstb

Book reaction: Beggars and Choosers (Nancy Kress)
Jan. 20th, 2026 10:52 amYesterday, I finished reading Beggars and Choosers by Nancy Kress, the sequel to Beggars in Spain. I enjoyed this book and found it engaging enough that the problems I had with Beggars in Spain no longer bother me.
As I noted in my reaction to Beggars in Spain, given the power of the other genetic modifications on the Sleepless, the lack of a need to sleep seems almost like an afterthought. Apparently Kress realized this as well, because in this book, humanity is divided into four groups (listed here in decreasing order of genetic modification):
- Super-sleepless (AKA Supers)
- Sleepless
- Donkeys
- Livers[^1]
The Sleepless are pretty much written out of the story — most of them are in prison by this point, and the ones who aren't are pretty much helpless to affect the course of the story. The Sleepless are still necessary to the overall arc of the story, though, as without them there would be no Super-sleepless.
I think the problems that I still have with both this book and with Beggars in Spain come down to them being the first two parts of a trilogy where the parts are pretty much inseparable[^2]. Looking back from Beggars and Choosers, Beggars in Spain becomes sort of a prologue ("I told you that story so I can tell you this one..."). I don't really feel like it would be possible to tell the story of Beggars and Choosers without having told Beggars in Spain first — there's simply too much to try to squeeze it all into early chapters and/or memories. At the same time, Beggars and Choosers suffers from "second book of a trilogy" disease: it doesn't end so much as just stops.
Also, I'd like to remind/inform you: I keep a list of links to the monthly logs of books that I read at this sticky post, and the monthly logs contain links to the reactions I've written. If you see a book title without a link, it means I haven't written a reaction to that book, but if you'd like to hear what I thought about it, leave a comment and I'll write a reaction!
[^1] I think "Livers" in this context is rather an awkward word — my mind immediately went to the organ, but instead it's formed from the very "to live."
[^2] It seems like there ought to be one word for "three stories told in three consecutive books which share the same world and characters" and another word for "one story split into three books because of the limitations of bookbinding and/or the nature of the publishing industry," instead of using "trilogy" for both.
"Extreme horror" icebergs are kinda pissing me off
Jan. 20th, 2026 04:40 pmThis might read like a rant but it's more so just an irritation sorta "peeve" that I'm trying to understand. And that is the trend in general of telling the entire world about some of the most niche, weird or gross horror movies/manga/etc in existence. It's kinda frustrating as a long term consumer. It's got nothing to do with any sort of hipster "before it was cool" thing. I actually like it when more people like what I do bc more people know what I'm talking about. The problem is, it seems like the only reason it blew up is not bc people actually find it enjoyable but because people want to feel morally superior by going off about an hour how disgusting said movies are and how the director and those who enjoy them are such terrible people. Like I remember years ago casually watching stuff from fdupmovies and the comments were critiques on the actual movie or the effects, or have recommendations or were people just leaving comments like "brutal". Now it's just people trying to preach and start a fight with anyone who actually likes the movie. extreme horror had a fan base of mainly metal heads before everybody else started screeching about it. Now it's just a bunch of people trying to out virtue signal eachother. Or just trying to feel "brave" for watching something they know they're gonna hate. It reminds me of when I was 12 trying to feel badass by listening to a Halloween sound effect disk with the lights off. Idk. And I think the main gripe I have about this is that it's leading to censorship and causes things to become harder to find. Or, physical copies are all bought up just by people to be like "sO I WATCHED THIS DISGUSTING MOVIE" and have it in their hands just to own something weird that like....they don't even like? Idk. It's weird. If I know I'm NOT gonna like something I'm not gonna go out of my way to go watch it. Is it just to feel unique or something? Like I don't understand what the point is.

final destination bloodlines
Jan. 20th, 2026 04:05 pmi really liked this movie. I was already into the final destination franchise as a whole. But this movie was really good.
my thing is with the very first premonition actually being in 1968 (?) that creates a whole new thing. All of the previous movies had mentioned that the first premonition was the plane crash premonition in 2000. but that *actual* first premonition was in the 60s
i would like to say that since it was the 60s, nobody ever really knew of a premonition happening. they probably just considered it a freak accident and not a premonition. that whole thing was probably a rare occurrence in the 60s so they probably never thought “how did this one girl knew that everything was gonna happen?”
as for the movie, I did like the new plot line of whoever was supposed to be killed in the accident, they were killed first, then their families. nice little switch up.
I also like how it took death almost 50 years to kill Iris. Because death would’ve had to get every single person who died in that collision, which was hundreds.
But I feel as though if we’re going by the rules of this movie, the families of the main characters in the previous movies should’ve died as well after the main characters died.
like samantha from fd4. She had two kids. She was initially supposed to die in that race car crash. Her kids should’ve died as well, according to FD6 rules.
edit: her kids would’ve been safe. the rule only applies if you have kids after you survived the premonition.

Finally watched "Good Boy" 2025 last night (NO SPOILERS)
Jan. 20th, 2026 04:02 pmAnd I have never cried so goddamn hard at a movie in my entire life. I started crying consistently at about the 15 minute mark but in the last 20 minutes I was sobbing so hard I thought I was going to throw up. I knew it was going to get me, as a dog owner who has basically always had a dog for the 30 years I have been on this planet, but I didn't think it would actually effect me as severely as it did. I just wanted to keep crying the rest of the night.
Like, it was an excellent movie. It follows a pretty standard haunted house formula, but I love that, so that's not a detriment to me like it was for some viewers and critics. I think haunted house stories are one of the best kinds of stories, and I'll watch just about anything with the premise of "something is Wrong here". The human performances are strong and believable, though there are a few line reads here and there that I don't love. I think there's also some ambiguity as to what the presence actually is and whether it's supernatural at all, which I thought was a very good choice on their part.
The tension was great. All the way through they forced your eyes to look all around the screen, waiting to see something in the background, and it was very effective in making me anxious as hell. I couldn't stop looking for little things lurking around. There were some good jumpscares, but I think a lot of the fear comes more from the unrelenting, always-increasing tension.
But, of course, the real highlight was Indy. He made me think a lot about my own dog, and especially how I've lost patience with her in the past when I was having various issues. All she ever does is wag her tail and try to make me feel better, and it was not unlike being stabbed over and over and over and over and over and over and over to see that so realistically represented on screen. He really is an excellent little actor. I was genuinely very moved by him the whole time, and not just cause he was an adorable fluffy little guy. I was so scared for him the entire time, especially at the end, because I wasn't sure what kind of vibe they were going to go with.
There was also some ambiguity in that ending, I felt.
I'd honestly give this a 9/10. It's simple, but it's different, and I think it was one of the most unique horror movies I've ever seen. I enjoy when movies of any genre take risks and tell stories from perspectives people might never have considered before. I can't think of any time someone has made a movie based on the question of "what if a dog was in a haunted house?", and the team for this succeeded in making something that was both a very anxiety inducing, scary horror movie, and a love letter to all our four (or less) legged barking furry (and sometimes not) friends and their steadfast companionship.
One point deducted for the headache I had after crying that much XD

Movie of the day...THE MARK OF THE WOLFMAN (1968)
Jan. 20th, 2026 03:59 pmMovie of the day...The Mark of the Wolfman (1968).
In Spanish, this is known as La Marca del Hombre Lobo. Our story begins at a party for young Countess Janice Von Aarenberg (Dyanik Zurakowska). She is dancing with her childhood friend Rudolph (Manuel Manzaneque) when a dark and handsome stranger appears. It is Count Waldemar Daninsky (Paul Naschy). Janice is entranced and soon falls in love with Waldemar, much to the annoyance of the often pouty Rudolph.
But fate has a cruel surprise! A Romani couple who have come to town get drunk and then, having decided to rob graves and look for jewels, break into the crypt of werewolf Imre Wolfstein. In fairness, they do not know he was a werewolf, although one would think they would get a little suspicious when they find a perfectly preserved body with a silver dagger in its chest. However, proving again that natural selection is always at work, they remove the silver dagger and are promptly torn to pieces by the revived werewolf.
Wolfstein now goes on a rampage. He is about to kill Rudolph when Waldemar saves him, driving the dagger back into the werewolf’s chest. But, in the process, Waldemar is bitten! Now he is cursed with lycanthropy!
Rudolph, whose near-death experience has opened his eyes to the basic nobility of the brooding Count Daninsky, dedicates himself to helping his new friend. He writes to the mysterious Dr. Janos Mikhelov, who is supposed to be an expert in lycanthropy. But when Mikhelov (Julian Ugarte) and his wife Wandesa (Aurora de Alba) show up, they are a strange and sinister couple. What do they want? Can Waldemar still be saved from the curse?
This is the first in the long series of films featuring Paul Naschy as the werewolf Waldemar Daninsky. It is all right if you watch them out of order, though; the movies are mostly unconnected stories except for the presence of the main character.
The best way to enjoy this movie is probably to take it as pure melodrama. Do not watch it expecting psychological nuance or gritty realism. It is full of color and passion and shadows and dungeons and werewolves leaping on people. It also has some curious editing choices. It is not unlike a Hammer Horror film, except it is in Spanish and it seems to have had a little too much coffee this morning.
Objectively, it is not a very good movie, but it is so over-the-top some people will still find it fun. I recommend watching it in the original Spanish with English subtitles.

Songs of Resistance
Jan. 20th, 2026 09:50 am
Your daily laser-eyed loon, this one facing forward, determined, shooting its lasers to say "Melt Ice." (by Rin Mix)
Yesterday, as noted it was one of our colder days. It was also Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, so Shawn had the day off work. I decided to limit my activities, though I did sign up to a Discord group which is organizing around doing laundry for people who have now been stuck indoors for so long trying to wait out the gestapo occupation.
One of the things I decided to do, however, was go singing. Our hyper-local singing group decided that due to the temperature, people would start inside a coffee shop. Our organizer made sure it was okay for us to sing a little bit indoors, but since people in the Twin Cities often gather at coffee shops to do work, we kept our indoor songs to a minimum. We then braved the outdoors for a couple of rounds of various songs, including this incredible re-working of Pete Seeger's "Which Side Are You On?"
The chorous remains the same, but the verses now read:
Come all you good people
Some news to you I'll tell
Of how your loving neighbors
Have come to give ICE hell
Chorus:
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Another neighbor killed today
Oh when will this all cease?
Another mother dead, my friends
Murdered by police.
[chorus]
My mother was a feminst
And she taught me how to see
The road to ruin is paved with gold
by the patriarchy
[chorus]
So let the North Star* guide us
Back towards democracy
Reject the threats of fascists
Or we can not be free
[chorus]
Oh, neighbors, can you feel it?
Oh, tell me that you can.
Will you stay silent?
Or will you take a stand?
[chorus x2]
I found this version to be incredibly powerful and while we were standing outside the coffee shop on Snelling Avenue singing our hearts out, a car at the stoplight opened its doors. I turned, expecting the worst, but it was a beat-up Toyota and probably the window crank didn't work and so the people inside were trying to hear what we were singing/saying. They were a couple of Lantinx guys and hearing what we were singing brought HUGE SMILES to their faces. When they noticed us noticing them they gave us big thumbs up, smiles, and waves.
That reminded me that even small acts are sustaining... to the fighters and those we fight for.
I also ran into a friend of a friend who also lives in Midway, so it was really nice to actually see a familiar face while out and about.
I was also happy to see that the New York Times finally had a big article about the mutual aid efforts in today's paper. They focused exculsively on the food donattions, and again, I wish that people could see the whole huge variety of things people are doing--the scope of which is truly staggering. However, it's a good article and if you are local (or are interested in what I'm talking about),
All right, comrades. Stay warm! Stay strong!

For those of you who might not know, the Minnesota state motto is E'toile du Nord (in French) which translates as The Star of the North. If you see protestors shouting that phrase, they are not Canadian (or French) agitators, but folks who have decided that being the star of the north means that we are leading the country in how to defend democracy.
What type of horror villain would Tupac have excelled at?
Jan. 20th, 2026 03:17 pmHear me out.
Whilst the title of this post may sound like textbook “RIP PAC”, something easy to overlook is that Tupac Shakur was a classically trained actor before becoming a rapper and in his very brief time on this earth had established himself as a very skilled actor in roles such as Bishop in Juice (a particular favourite).
With this in mind as, to my opinion at least, some of the best horror villains are classically trained actors, what type of villain would he have excelled at had his career been long enough to have one?
Personally I could picture him in a similar role to the LeDomas family from ready or not, a higher than thou elitist prick who delights in hurting those lower than him

What do you guys think of the movie “bodies bodies bodies?”
Jan. 20th, 2026 02:04 pmas somebody who is in GenZ, I think the movie does a great representation of GenZ, as we have incorporated social media in our daily lives, like how the characters were mentioning the “group chat” and how Sophie was creating memoirs which were a “valid response to life in an attention economy”
Also, it brings light to very serious issues. such as addiction, BPD, etc.
But I do think that the characters in the movie are a little bit out of touch. There was a hurricane that was happening during the movie. Most people would’ve been scared for their lives and worried that their house was gonna get blown down, but they were quite literally throwing a party 😭😭 I think that goes into how rich people tend to be very out of touch with reality
edit: i’ve been told that hurricane parties are a normal occurrence.I’m from the Midwest so we don’t get hurricanes* *😭
also, pretty much none of the characters are likable. That’s how you know the movie is good. if a character is actively pissing you off, then the movie and the actors did their job.
but the character tropes were interesting. You got the airhead party girl (alice), the no nonsense tomboy (jordan), the boy crazy girl (emma), the one who was estranged from the group (sophie), and the boyfriends who are just constantly at each other’s throats (david and greg)
what’s interesting about this movie and a lot of other movies related to this, is that it consists of a group of friends who just flatout despise each other. What happens later in the movie will show you that none of these people actually like each other 😭😭
and the plot twist was INSANE. but also a little bit funny because you’re like “this all happened for nothing”

Homeward By Starlight & On Thud and Blunder by Poul Anderson
Jan. 20th, 2026 08:39 am
November 25, 2026 would have been Poul Anderson’s 100th birthday. As there is no guarantee any of us will see November 25, 2026, I’ll borrow an idea from Tom Lehrer’s That Was the Year That Was and start writing something appropriately celebratory now.

Black Phone 2 is nowhere near as bad as it was made out to be
Jan. 20th, 2026 12:56 pmI have avoided this movie since its release due to all the negative reviews and the online hate it received. As a fan of the first installment I have been hesitant to watch the second installment. Finally gave it a watch and was not disappointed. It was a great continuation of the child’s abilities, even if connecting the mom back to the camp was a stretch and even if it was a slight ripoff from a Nightmare movie. I’m hoping for a 3 considering a snow melt has to come!
[link] [comments]
Been watching From and so far its been great. My favourite aspect of it is the concept of making sure that the characters are sheltered by night.
They can do whatever they want during the day, but once the sun comes down, they need to make it indoors, keep the doors closed, have the windows covered, and have the talisman in place.
I was wondering what other series follow a similar concept. A terror that doesnt come out until a certain time of the day, forcing people to stay hidden until its safe to come outside again. Open to all mediums.
I do know that in the video game medium, Dying Light has a similar mechanic in which the night is infinitely more dangerous than the day, incentivizing you to make it to a safe zone. Darkwood also has similar elements.

The Day in Spikedluv (Monday, Jan 19)
Jan. 20th, 2026 07:25 amI did a load of laundry, hand-washed dishes, went for a walk with Pip and the dogs, cut up chicken for the dogs' meals, and scooped kitty litter.
I made a pumpkin pie because mom asked me to. (I make it in a small shell, so put some of the pumpkin filling in a small pyrex dish. I took her that dish. She had it when I made it before Thanksgiving and really enjoyed it.)
I went with one of my own teas again this morning, Celestial Seasonings’ Mandarin Orange Spice. This blend combined the tart flavor of mandarin oranges with aromatic spices, cloves, and coriender to create a bright. lively brew that transports tea drinkers to exotic destinations with every sip. I wouldn’t say I was transported anywhere, but it tasted good.
My stomach tried to rebel on me again this morning. ( cutting for those who don't care to read )
We went to Texas Roadhouse with friends for supper, yay! I managed to write ~300 words on my SFBB fic and Zoo Tampa was my background tv in the evening. I wish I’d gotten more written, but between going downtown, visiting mom, and eating out, there wasn’t much time for it.
Temps started out at 19.4(F) and dropped to 15.6 before I left the house! There was sun in the morning, but then it was overcast. Temps reached 27.3. The roads were good in the morning, but the wind picked up, so we ran into some snow blown into the road on our way to Texas Roadhouse.
Mom Update:
Mom was doing ~okay when I saw her. She seemed tired. She’d already eaten, but even so she had some of the pumpkin pie filling I took her. Sister A was there when I arrived and Ian showed up after. Her BFF showed up later in the afternoon and Sister S was there when I called in the evening. She had a nice string of visitors, which she likes.
The Pitt: i want to be the one patrolling your border by Lirazel
Jan. 20th, 2026 12:50 pmThis is my first time posting here, hope I'm doing it right
Fandom: The Pitt
Pairings/Characters: Mel King/Frank Langdon
Rating: Explicit
Length: 15,986
Creator Links: Lirazel on Ao3,
lirazel
Theme: Crack treated seriously, (not really) unrequited love, (something) made them do it, sex pollen
Summary:
There are all kinds of protocols in place to prevent this sort of thing, but of course they mean exactly nothing when faced with the reality of emergency medicine.
Frank and Trinity both complain that Mel has no sense of self-preservation, but she’s actually a very careful and responsible person. Despite what they say, she never puts herself in danger if she can help it, she feels that she makes level-headed decisions even under pressure, and even if she usually finds people hard to read, she’s read The Gift of Fear and is pretty sure she can tell when someone has actually malicious intent.
Pretty sure until, with no warning at all, a patient—Griffin Jackson, white male, 27, complaining of chest pains—pulls out a tiny jar of neon-yellow powder and pops off the top.
Reccer's note: This is a classic fandom trope (sex pollen) treated seriously. Mel and Frank are just co-workers in canon, but in canon it's obvious they have a connection and this fic explores how much they might grow to mean to each other, and it does so while keeping them (and all other characters that appear) tremendously in character. The sex is, of course, very hot too. :D And the fic also does consent right!

Mods, we need a tag for The Pitt and the pairing too maybe, please? Thank you.

Tubi Roulette (1.20.25): Michael Caine in Oliver Stone’s THE HAND (1981)
Jan. 20th, 2026 09:26 amHoly cow was this great. There’s so much to unpack with this. It’s absurd, but they play it straight and I think it ends up being an excellent early 80s horror flick.
First of all, MICHAEL CAINE AND OLIVER STONE in a movie basically no one knows exists in 2026.
That opening 10 minutes is a chef’s kiss to early 80s horror.
Without spoilers: A cartoon artist has a tragic accident and believes his severed hand is killing everybody in sight.
This is a must watch. There’s some really good props and camera effects here.
I’m not sure any of Stone’s shots are particularly noteworthy but I think some of the stuff in the barn was done pretty well, off the top of my head.
This is immediately on my list for the next October to rewatch for Halloween.

Seeking a horror movie that's extremely visually scary
Jan. 20th, 2026 07:48 amI'm looking for something that will trigger my fight or flight just by looking at the screen. I do love psychological horror but I'm a very visual person, and photos like The Exorcist girl and those dark basement pictures online trigger something in my brain. I prefer dread over jump scares and I don't care what it's about as long as it gives me scare.

🌙
Jan. 20th, 2026 02:17 pmI've had an ultrasound done, and they found a fibroid sitting in my uterus. Getting the blood test to screen for PCOS proved more complicated because most major hospitals here don't have a PCOS package and add each test individually, which turns out prohibitively expensive. They all say they have a Gynaecology department but it's all pregnancy and childbirth, no menstrual health. This includes the hospitals that call themselves a 'women and children's hospital'. Hell, there's a whole hospital just for fertility and childbirth here, called The Birthplace. But nothing for menstrual health! It makes me so angry. Even the gynaecologist who diagnosed me, is one I consulted online because her specialisation is menstrual health whereas all the gynaecologists in my city specialise in fertility.
Since this is a fasting blood test I wanted to go to a hospital nearby. That didn't work out because they're obsessed with me giving birth when any woman who chooses to give birth does so for a much shorter span of her life than the span she spends menstruating!!!! *angry noises*
So I called Proactive For Her (through whom I'd had the online consultation with the gynaecologist who told me my periods are definitely abnormal). They said they only opened at nine, so I went and waited. Turns out they don't even have their own clinic space and they're sharing space with an IVF clinic (fucking fertility again). At least they have a presence in my city! I wouldn't have been able to get tested for PCOS if they didn't! They had a comprehensive PCOS panel for 5000 rupees. The other hospitals were charging 30,000 rupees because they didn't have an existing package and were adding each test individually!
No wonder so many women get told to just go have a baby whenever their periods are giving them trouble. It's because the gynaecologists telling them that haven't been trained for anything else. And it's not like the hospitals offer comprehensive testing, either.
What this experience drove home to me is that I never had the chance to get diagnosed earlier anyway because Proactive For Her only started three or so years ago, opened first in Bangalore and came to my city only recently. They do offer fertility and pregnancy related care, but they equally offer menstrual healthcare and women's sexual healthcare. They're the only gynaecologists I know here who screen for vaginismus, for instance.
Now I'm waiting for my report. Can't wait to get some answers!
On a lighter note (or more creepy note), Instagram is already targeting me for PCOS supplements. On the one hand I haven't been diagnosed yet, on the other hand I have a hunch I will be, on the third hand Instagram is sooo spying on me because it knows just from me mentioning being tested for PCOS aloud, on the fourth hand perhaps being spied on is worth it if it's serving me up useful information because I wouldn't know where to go hunting for supplements and this way I have all the choices in front of me, and on the fifth hand I use Instagram as a shopping and jobsearching site and not a social media one anyway so it's fineeee.
What is some commonly/over used horror dialogue?
Jan. 20th, 2026 07:27 amI'm sure most of us can think of general film and media dialogue that's been used a lot, but what about specifically in horror media?
"This isn't funny (anymore)!" is one I think of. It's probably a realistic line, it's probably something somebody would say if they were beginning to wonder if there were something more than their friend, hiding and waiting for them. It's just used like crazy.

Help me find this trailer again (please)
Jan. 20th, 2026 06:50 amFor the life of me i’m trying to find this trailer for a new movie that i watched and i can’t think of the title at all. I don’t think it’s been widely released yet, I watched it within the past month or so. I know it involved a woman staying in the woods and there’s this other woman there who i believe doesn’t talk? and is more of like an entrapping guide. and then things spiral from there. it felt almost trippy and gay? i know it’s so vague but i’m just hoping this sounds familiar to someone else! google and my watch history is literally no help

Life, a series of memorials and signals
Jan. 19th, 2026 11:00 pmI am re-reading Kathryn M. Drennan's To Dream in the City of Sorrows (1997) for the first time since it came out and had completely forgotten the introduction by J. Michael Straczynski in which he designates it the first fully canonical novel in the Babylon 5 tie-in line. Despite the volumes of Harlan Ellison I was tracking down in used book stores and reading at the time—his credit as creative consultant was a point in the show's favor—it was not until years later that I caught since how much of his nonfiction voice had been adopted by JMS. "How difficult a task was this? Job would've packed it in, Hercules would've retired, and Orpheus would've decided that his days spent in Hades weren't really that bad."
The Post-Meridian Radio Players have now opened auditions for their spring show: Jeeves & Wooster: Hijinks and Shenanigans. I am seriously considering throwing myself on a slot for the genderswapped adaptation. It would be something of an exercise if I went for it; most of my performance skills do not translate into straight acting and I am frankly missing the facility with accents specified in the sides or I'd be able to code-switch out of being asked all the time where mine's really from. There was an intrusion here from Tiny Wittgenstein which has since been deleted. But even if it's just the hangover from Arisia, I have not auditioned for anything since 2019 and so long as I could decouple the experience from actually landing a part, it suddenly looked as though it might be fun.
Indeed, I had never heard of hickory oil. I am not however thrilled by the prospect of trading off maple syrup.
Please put the name of the movie BEFORE the spoiler tags.

Heated Rivalry: All I Do is Stay Winning by Ragazza_Guasto
Jan. 20th, 2026 06:46 pmCharacters/Pairings: Shane Hollander/Ilya Rozanov, Cliff Marleau, Connors
Rating: Mature
Length: 5144
Content Notes: no AO3 warnings apply. Descriptions of illness, choking, vomiting.
Creator Links: Ragazza_Guasto on AO3
Themes: Crack treated seriously, Pining, Getting back together, Canon LGBTQ+ characters, Angst with a happy ending
Summary: “Can you believe it? How the hell did he end up bagging her?”
Ilya stared, brain not comprehending what his body already seemed to, that Hollander was dating-
“Rose fuckin’ Landry! How does the lamest guy in the League-”
He knew that smile. He thought it was for him, just for him. But it wasn't.
“No,” he whispered. His stomach spasmed.
“You good, Roz?”
Why would he- How could he-
They were holding hands…
“Rozanov? What the fuck?”
He jumped up from the table and stumbled for the front door, just barely making it through before the first mass of petals came up. He heaved as he ran, trying desperately to get away from the pavement, somewhere he could hide what was happening.
Unfortunately, his teammates had followed, because of course they would. He saw a photo of Shane Hollander holding hands with a movie star and promptly threw up.
Who wouldn't be curious?
Reccer's Notes: Hanahaki disease, where a sufferer of unrequited love starts bringing up flowers, has to be one of the crackiest tropes ever. In this story Ilya develops Hanahaki after seeing the pics of Shane going out with Rose Landry. But it's not some gently romantic fluttering of petals from his lips, it's bloodily bringing up a hard, painful tulip bulb, then more flowers, more bulbs. I guess the trope always has a potentially serious outcome (death vs requited love) but to me the "treated seriously" aspects here are the medical details and treatment, the painful and unromantic way the disease affects Ilya, and the way the fic cleverly incorporates his family history, via his mother. Ilya gets very sick indeed before Shane finds out, with inevitable results. Well written, and a great read.
