Hello detectives! There is a scheduled AO3 maintenance that will go into effect and will apparently last for 15 hours, which will impact nominations as AO3 will be down during this period. Please view their "What time is it for me?" so you can plan your nominations accordingly. As we may miss a day to nominate, I've chosen to extend nominations to Saturday 24 January. [ In your timezone + Countdown ]

*

Please review our nomination guidelines before nominating. There's an opportunity to transfer accepted tags from the 2025 tagset to the 2026 tagset.

I'm seeking clarifications on the following nominations. If I could hear back about these, that would be appreciated so we can keep our nomination approvals moving.

All Media Types + Related Fandoms
Can the nominator(s) please amend their nominations? We do not accept "All Media Types" and "Related Fandoms" without a case being made.

    Transformers - All Media Types
    Any Decepticon Character
    Drift | Deadlock/Perceptor
    Impactor/Springer (Transformers)
    Megatron/Rodimus | Rodimus Prime
    Optimus Prime/Ratchet
    Ratchet/First Aid
    Rung & Whirl (Transformers)

Can the nominator please renominate this under the desired series? Are you after the Michael Bay or animated movies? The video games? Books?

Crossover Fandom

    Crossover Fandom
Avengers Team Members (Marvel) & Loki (Loki TV)
Avengers Team Members (Marvel) & Mobius M. Mobius (Loki TV)
Loki & Sylvie (Loki TV) & Thor (Marvel)

Can the nominator please update their disambiguations for the Marvel portion of these nominations? The disambiguation is too vague. Is it MCU? Marvel 616?

    Crossover Fandom
Phryne Fisher (Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries) & Jane Marple (Agatha Christie)
Phryne Fisher (Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries)/Lucifer Morningstar (Lucifer TV)

Can the nominator please specify which version of Jane Marple and Phryne Fisher they would like? It seems the character of Jane appears in books, TV and anime, and Phryne in books and TV. If you're happy to receive any version, please let me know and I will accept these as is.
    Sorted!

天官赐福 - 墨香铜臭 | Tiān Guān Cì Fú - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù
Xie Lian (TGCF) & Wei Wuxian (MDZS)

I'm canon blind to the canons in the disambiguations. Can the nominator, or someone familiar, please confirm if this should be nominated under "Crossover Fandom"? The disambiguations imply it should be. Can the nominator please renominate this under "Crossover Fandom" so it can be accepted?

Recursive fandom missing permission statement proof

Rigel Black Chronicles - murkybluematter (DFE)
Arcturus Rigel "Archie" Black/Hermione Granger (Rigel Black Chronicles)
Draco Malfoy & Pansy Parkinson & Blaise Zabini (Rigel Black Chronicles)
Lionel "Leo" Hurst/Harriet Potter | Rigel Black (Rigel Black Chronicles)
Solo: Aldon Rosier (Rigel Black Chronicles)
Solo: Harriet Potter | Rigel Black (Rigel Black Chronicles)

Can the nominator please provide proof of the permission statement for this work? I approved these and cannot find any evidence that the nominator has provided a permission statement for this work. Our nomination guidelines state that recursive works need permission evidence provided by the nominator. If it's not given by the end of the nomination period, I will remove these tags from the tagset.

Please read up on the nomination guidelines for recursive nominations and be sure to provide evidence!
    Sorted!

Other

Lucifer (TV) — Does it belong in DC's Arrowverse?

For those familiar with Lucifer (TV), do you think this show should be considered under the DC Arrowverse umbrella? I'm only familiar with Lucifer's involvement in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event and the ramifications of that. I'm happy to keep it separate, but I wanted to check in with nominators/interested parties to see if it should go under our DCTV umbrella. Sorted! Keeping it separate. :)

There are queries from the first nominations post that I'd appreciate the nominator's input on.

Please let me know on any nominations post if you see any duplicates or errors (like typos!) in the tagset. We've had some wandering tags a few detectives have successfully captured (thank you!). Happy nominating!

Comment with Just One Thing you've accomplished in the last 24 hours or so. It doesn't have to be a hard thing, or even a thing that you think is particularly awesome. Just a thing that you did.

Feel free to share more than one thing if you're feeling particularly accomplished!

Extra credit: find someone in the comments and give them props for what they achieved!

Nothing is too big, too small, too strange or too cryptic. And in case you'd rather do this in private, anonymous comments are screened. I will only unscreen if you ask me to.

Mass Chaos

Woke up at 9:30 AM. It’s cold out, but the dogs seem unfazed for now. Tried to get the dogs in early because it’s cold, but they didn’t want to come in yet. Okay. I’ll try again in 15 minutes. They still want to stay out. Crazy dogs.

Mass chaos over here. It was Bella, who usually is cooperative, who didn’t want to come in. Finally got her in. Oliver and Lily were in the basement. Oliver came up, but Lily went down in the basement. I finally got her in my arms and brought her up—and Oliver ran back down. I said, “Fine!” and shut the door. Now Bella isn’t eating her food. Sigh. I think that it’s nap time. Gracie went after Bella’s food, and now Bella is eating it. Dogs. Oliver came up. I picked up Lily and was bringing her upstairs when she jumped off right as I was going to shut the basement door. I put her food on the basement stairs because I’m a mom.

Mom’s trust says that tax forms will be mailed in March. Sigh.

Napped. If I wait until tomorrow to get the car jump-started, it’ll be warmer out. So I’ll stay home today.

Lily came upstairs, turned around, and went back downstairs. Oliver made a raid on Zara’s room. Cats!

I’m feeling freezing cold. I don’t know why. I’ve got a headache, so I think that I’ll get to bed early. Fed us all.

Today I made Crockpot Xawaash Chicken Stew.  I added some chopped cherry tomatoes.  They worked pretty well, but didn't cook very evenly.

I also made Sour Cream Biscuits. We had sour cream left over from a previous recipe.  Honestly, I thought these were a failure because they didn't fluff up at all.  The texture is more like a dumpling than a biscuit.  But they have a great sour cream flavor, and they worked quite well with the stew.  If you have spare sour cream, it's worth a try.

From the article:

European Union microplastic rules are working. They have changed how companies make and use plastics across dozens of industries. The regulations aim to eliminate microplastics that pollute oceans, soil, and even the human body.

The EU microplastic ban regulations started in 2023 through a law called REACH. These rules will remove microplastics from face scrubs, laundry detergent, paints, cosmetics, agricultural products, and many other items by 2035. Companies must now find alternatives that break down naturally instead of lasting hundreds of years in the environment.

The regulations define microplastics as tiny pieces of synthetic polymer that don’t break down. This clear definition helps companies know exactly what they need to replace. Industries are responding by creating biodegradable materials that decompose into water, carbon dioxide, and natural matter within months instead of centuries.

Market research firm IDTechEx studied these changes in their report Microplastics 2025: Regulations, Technologies, and Alternatives. Their analysis shows how EU microplastic ban regulations are speeding up the development of earth-friendly plastic alternatives throughout Europe and beyond.

a few of the songs are on insta and youtube and this beautiful song sung by Miranda, called “Time & Place” is what got me interested in the project at first

from what i can tell it’s a pretty faithful take on the story and focuses on both the themes of colonisation and queer suppression just like the og, plus albert and sara are aboriginal like they were in the book! Albert is played by a Native American currently though because of scheduling issues but it’s better than nothing

very-grownup:

Many great divas of the last thirty to forty years have been African Americans: Grace Bumbry, Martina Arroyo, Shirley Verrett, Leona Mitchell, Betty Allen, Mattiwilda Dobbs, Kathleen Battle, Leontyne Price, Jessye Norman. And yet, until recently, opera was a white enterprise. Most opera houses forbade women or men of color from singing or attending. Few blacks attended the Metropolitan Opera, even in the absence of strict segregation policies, and no blacks sang leading roles there until Marian Anderson made her postprime debut in 1955 as Ulrica the gypsy witch in Un Ballo in Maschera. Rosalyn M. Story’s recent study, And So I Sing: African-American Divas of Opera and Concert, details a long history of African-American women achieving fame either through recital work or through operatic performances in all-black companies.

In Jean-Jacques Beineix’s film Diva, the diva, Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez, an American woman of color, subverts the traditional image of the white diva and reminds us that divas, though usually white, have been linked to racial otherness, darkness, exoticism, and “blood”. Long before the recent flourishing of the African-American diva, opera culture used images of darkness to demonize the diva. Color is one of the primary metaphors for the qualities of vocal tone. Singers are taught to avoid the “white” sound and to cover the tones, to make them darker. Roles like Carmen rely on the notion of the diva’s “Latin blood”. When divas have been made up to appear Asian or African for such roles as Aida, Selika, Cio-Cio-San, and Iris, they were expressing opera culture’s insistence on the dark nature of the diva, as well as underscoring, in a problematic masquerade, the white diva’s separation from the women of color she portrays.

The voice of the black operatic or concert diva was imagined to emanate directly from her ethnicity: commentators referred to Marian Anderson’s “Negroid sound.” And listeners have used metaphors of darkness and of racial essence to describe the appeal of certain female operatic voices even when the singer was white. Maria Malibran and Pauline Viardot were frequently described as having non-European features; one friend of Malibran speculated on the diva’s “negro blood.” A journalist, describing Adelina Patti as a child, notices her “little brown throat,” her “Dark arms” clinging to her girl playmates’ “white little necks”; because of her darkness, she is a “born exponent of the Spanish type.” Italian origin was itself considered a sign of darkness: Margherita de L'Epine was called the “tawny Tuscan.”

The diva brings her vocal treasure abroad, on tour to the colonies; and she finds there, among the colonized, a reflection of her abjected organ. Galli-Curci’s biographer, narrating the diva’s tour of Asia and Africa, alternates descriptions of her “native” audiences and accounts of her larynx’s increasing vulnerability to medical specialists and to disease, as if the diva’s voice, sent to tame and tranquilize the colonized, were itself the empire’s possession, doomed to mysterious maladies and uncontrolled passions. Galli-Curci was like a missionary bent on conquering darkness; but her voice, because it was female, hidden, and inscrutable, was already aligned, in the imagery of empire, with the colonized.

Challenge #10: Big Mood (Board)

CHOOSE SOMETHING YOU LOVE AND CREATE A MINI MOOD COLLECTION OF THREE (or more) ITEMS THAT EVOKE YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT IT. You don’t have to limit yourself to visual media, or collect the items into a special format like a square (though you can if you’d like).

I’ve seen other people put together visual moodboards – assembling colors, stock photos, character stills, and other images that go together and evoke the feeling of that fandom (or story, or character). I’m not that good with visuals, so I’ll often put together playlists, or song quotes, or some mix of all of the above.

I love freeform challenges that let you choose how you want to respond, so I hope you’ll like this one! (And if you’d like a bit more direction, I have some suggestions later in this post.)

Scientists trace fertilizer microplastics from fields to beaches

Tiny plastic coatings from farm fertilizers are quietly reshaping the mystery of “missing plastics” in the ocean.

Plastic-coated fertilizers used on farms are emerging as a major but hidden source of ocean microplastics. A new study found that only a tiny fraction reaches beaches through rivers, while direct drainage from fields to the sea sends far more plastic back onto shore. Once there, waves and tides briefly trap the particles on beaches before many vanish again. This helps explain why so much plastic pollution seems to disappear after reaching the ocean
.

That sounds like another problem that could be reduced with a ban on using plastic to make microbeads.

Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel in portrait of a lady on fire

What’s the smell in the air? Is it roses? Chocolate? Body odor? No, it’s love! What’s not to love about a love story? They bring us joy. They make us cry. And most of all, they help us to believe in the idea that love is possible—that there’s somewhere out there waiting for every one of us. While the 21st-century dating pool can sometimes feel like a dating-app drenched situationship swamp, these ten films give us hope for love. Here they are, the ten best romance movies of the 21st century. The next time you’re thinking about dinner and movie with that special someone, why not take them to see one of these?

Portrait of A Lady On Fire

Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel in portrait of a lady on fire

Directed by Céline Sciamma, Portrait of A Lady On Fire is described as a sapphic period romance—I was sold from that sentence alone. Set in the 18th century, the story follows a painter named Marianne who travels to a distant island to paint the portrait of Héloïse, a young woman soon to be married off to a nobleman from Milan. As Titanic suggests, portrait painting is a rather romantic activity—lots of intense staring at one another for hours on end. As the painter observes the paintee, the paintee looks back into her, and finds a similar longing hiding in the expression on her face. You know that thing Nietzsche said about staring into abysses and how they stare back into you? For Marianne, the abyss is Héloïse’s eyes; she feels like she could just fall in—and Héloïse’s gaze suggests the same.

The Possession of Alba Diaz

When a demonic presence awakens deep in a Mexican silver mine, the young woman it seizes must turn to the one man she shouldn’t trust… from bestselling author Isabel Cañas.

In 1765, plague sweeps through Zacatecas. Alba flees with her wealthy merchant parents and fiancé, Carlos, to his family’s isolated mine for refuge. But safety proves fleeting as other dangers soon bare their teeth: Alba begins suffering from strange hallucinations, sleepwalking, and violent convulsions. She senses something cold lurking beneath her skin. Something angry. Something wrong.

I love Cañas’ writing, but I felt that this book didn’t quite hit the mark. I never felt that the two main characters, Alba and Elías, were as compelling as they could have been. I never got to know them as well as I would have liked, and have come to expect from Cañas’ work.

I tend to think that part of the reason is that more time had to be given to explaining the situation, unlike her first two books where the situations were those most readers would be familiar with. Because of that, the romance side of the story was overwhelmed by the horror.

And horror there is in Alba’s possession. Some parts are out and out creepy and I liked that the reader is kept guessing as to what’s really going on and who can be trusted. But for my self, I would have preferred more time spent on the romance's development, which at times felt rushed.

I won’t go so far to say that I didn’t enjoy the story, because I did. But the book would place last in line when it comes to her three books.

I had a very short night last night; I had some slightly painful gas when I went to bed which kept me awake for a while, then when it stopped being painful I couldn't get to sleep so I eventually got up and read for a while. I don't think I went to sleep until well after midnight. No doubt I'll sleep better tonight.

I finally got some motivation to pick up the granny square I started some weeks ago, and it's now almost finished. The multicoloured blanket I was making squares for before I moved is currently in storage, so this will be a new project. I'm using a yarn I've used before for knitting scarves; I like it because it's part wool and part synthetic and is soft and also washable. Unfortunately it only comes in a few colours but I'm thinking of using just two for the blanket anyway, either dark green and dark purple or dark green and burgundy.
