family home (l) couple arguing over divorce (c) divorce papers (r)

If you think your divorce was messy, Tennessee just dropped the trailer for the most chaotic breakup of the year. What might have been a “you get the house” win quickly took a hard left into pure petty performance art captured by a peeking neighbor.

A scorned husband literally handed his wife the deed… then gleefully flattened the house with a bulldozer while she was at work. Now a nosy neighbor-turned-TikTok-narrator is serving up night-vision footage of the wife wandering through the rubble with a flashlight and a mouth full of curses. The viewers, naturally, are eating up every dusty, dramatic second like it’s premium reality TV. But the best part? An even bigger plot twist in this tumultuous love story.

I hit Walmart while I was downtown and Stewart’s on the way home.

I did a load of laundry, hand-washed dishes, went for a walk with Pip and the dogs, cut up chicken for the dogs' meals, and scooped kitty litter.

I made a pumpkin pie because mom asked me to. (I make it in a small shell, so put some of the pumpkin filling in a small pyrex dish. I took her that dish. She had it when I made it before Thanksgiving and really enjoyed it.)

I went with one of my own teas again this morning, Celestial Seasonings’ Mandarin Orange Spice. This blend combined the tart flavor of mandarin oranges with aromatic spices, cloves, and coriender to create a bright. lively brew that transports tea drinkers to exotic destinations with every sip. I wouldn’t say I was transported anywhere, but it tasted good.

My stomach tried to rebel on me again this morning. cutting for those who don't care to read )

We went to Texas Roadhouse with friends for supper, yay! I managed to write ~300 words on my SFBB fic and Zoo Tampa was my background tv in the evening. I wish I’d gotten more written, but between going downtown, visiting mom, and eating out, there wasn’t much time for it.

Temps started out at 19.4(F) and dropped to 15.6 before I left the house! There was sun in the morning, but then it was overcast. Temps reached 27.3. The roads were good in the morning, but the wind picked up, so we ran into some snow blown into the road on our way to Texas Roadhouse.

Mom Update:

Mom was doing ~okay when I saw her. She seemed tired. She’d already eaten, but even so she had some of the pumpkin pie filling I took her. Sister A was there when I arrived and Ian showed up after. Her BFF showed up later in the afternoon and Sister S was there when I called in the evening. She had a nice string of visitors, which she likes.

I've been to the movies regularly for decades, and lately, there’s one thing that’s been totally messing with my viewing experience: those perfect teeth veneers. It’s honestly getting super distracting.

I don’t know if the dental tech just got better or if it’s more affordable now, but they are everywhere. It’s not just the big stars anymore; you see them on character actors and even minor roles. It feels so out of place, especially in a gritty or historical movie, or when a actor is playing a heavy smoker or a hobo; where someone’s teeth shouldn't look like glowing white. It totally breaks the vibe and pulls you right out of the story.

What’s even weirder is when actors only get "canine-to-canine" veneers. You’ll be watching a close-up and notice this huge color gap—blinding white teeth in the front and then their natural, darker teeth in the back.

After delaying the watch for a long time I finally managed to see it with some friends. I am now a bit depressed, I was not expecting this movie to touch me this deep. What is time? What is a human life? Is it worth to live these endless days while the years pass by at the speed of light? Is there an ultimate purpose reachable in only one lifetime?

I would love to hear if you have any recommendations of movies similar to The Man from Earth and if you liked the sequel and recommend me to watch it!

This is my first time posting here, hope I'm doing it right

Fandom: The Pitt

Pairings/Characters: Mel King/Frank Langdon

Rating: Explicit

Length: 15,986

Creator Links: Lirazel on Ao3, [personal profile] lirazel

Theme: Crack treated seriously, (not really) unrequited love, (something) made them do it, sex pollen

Summary:

There are all kinds of protocols in place to prevent this sort of thing, but of course they mean exactly nothing when faced with the reality of emergency medicine.

Frank and Trinity both complain that Mel has no sense of self-preservation, but she’s actually a very careful and responsible person. Despite what they say, she never puts herself in danger if she can help it, she feels that she makes level-headed decisions even under pressure, and even if she usually finds people hard to read, she’s read The Gift of Fear and is pretty sure she can tell when someone has actually malicious intent.

Pretty sure until, with no warning at all, a patient—Griffin Jackson, white male, 27, complaining of chest pains—pulls out a tiny jar of neon-yellow powder and pops off the top.

Reccer's note: This is a classic fandom trope (sex pollen) treated seriously. Mel and Frank are just co-workers in canon, but in canon it's obvious they have a connection and this fic explores how much they might grow to mean to each other, and it does so while keeping them (and all other characters that appear) tremendously in character. The sex is, of course, very hot too. :D And the fic also does consent right!

Mods, we need a tag for The Pitt and the pairing too maybe, please? Thank you.

Lynch was one of the most unique and strange voices cinema has ever had. From Eraserhead to Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks, he pushed film and television into places that were unsettling, dreamlike and deeply personal. He did not explain his work. He trusted mood, intuition and subconscious logic more than plot. Love him or hate him, no one else ever made movies that felt like his.

He showed that film could be abstract, frightening, funny and emotional all at once. And he proved you could stay uncompromisingly weird and still leave a permanent mark on the culture.

What is your favorite David Lynch film or moment? And how do you think his work will be remembered long term?

As a diecast car collector, my love for cars recently took a new turn, straight into car movies. While exploring, I stumbled upon Ford v Ferrari. The title alone sets the tone, and what follows is more than just a race it’s a cinematic masterpiece for car enthusiasts.

This film can easily become a favorite if you’re into machines, motorsport, or the soul behind the wheel. It doesn’t just entertain ! it teaches. It shows what racing means, to the driver, to the family, to the company, and to history.

The movie begins with Carroll Shelby walking into the darkness… and ends with Ken Miles dying in broad daylight. That contrast felt poetic and symbolic. The foreshadowing in this movie is brilliant, Shelby asking if he was ever on fire during a pit stop, and later, silently witnessing Ken in flames. That moment shattered me.

Ken’s son Peter’s joy begins when Ken throws a wrench at Shelby a turning point that leads to triumph. Fittingly, the film ends with Shelby passing that same wrench to Peter. A quiet but meaningful gesture.

Technically, the film reminds us that any car can be the fastest when the engineers start thinking like drivers. That blend of emotion and engineering is what makes the story roar.

One final thought ! there's a Tamil proverb: "கத்தி எடுத்தவனுக்கு கத்தியாலதான் சாவு" “The one who picks up the sword will die by it.” Ken Miles lived and died in a car. His victories were great, but his race, his spirit, is what will be remembered forever.

Have you watched the Movie ???, pls try if you didn't. Am I missed any details ?.

Hi everyone!

My girlfriend and I recently started dating and we’re currently in a long distance relationship. This weekend, we’re planning to do a watch party as a sort of first date.

She really loves action movies, but because of a health issue, she doesn’t have a very strong heart, so anything with jump scares or overly scary scenes is a no go.

Do you have any good action movie recommendations that would be great for a first date, exciting, well rated, but not scary?

Thanks in advance!

Moontime began around midday today. I was cramping, and the herbal sanitary pads came in clutch. So so glad Instagram targeted me for these.

I've had an ultrasound done, and they found a fibroid sitting in my uterus. Getting the blood test to screen for PCOS proved more complicated because most major hospitals here don't have a PCOS package and add each test individually, which turns out prohibitively expensive. They all say they have a Gynaecology department but it's all pregnancy and childbirth, no menstrual health. This includes the hospitals that call themselves a 'women and children's hospital'. Hell, there's a whole hospital just for fertility and childbirth here, called The Birthplace. But nothing for menstrual health! It makes me so angry. Even the gynaecologist who diagnosed me, is one I consulted online because her specialisation is menstrual health whereas all the gynaecologists in my city specialise in fertility.

Since this is a fasting blood test I wanted to go to a hospital nearby. That didn't work out because they're obsessed with me giving birth when any woman who chooses to give birth does so for a much shorter span of her life than the span she spends menstruating!!!! *angry noises*

So I called Proactive For Her (through whom I'd had the online consultation with the gynaecologist who told me my periods are definitely abnormal). They said they only opened at nine, so I went and waited. Turns out they don't even have their own clinic space and they're sharing space with an IVF clinic (fucking fertility again). At least they have a presence in my city! I wouldn't have been able to get tested for PCOS if they didn't! They had a comprehensive PCOS panel for 5000 rupees. The other hospitals were charging 30,000 rupees because they didn't have an existing package and were adding each test individually!

No wonder so many women get told to just go have a baby whenever their periods are giving them trouble. It's because the gynaecologists telling them that haven't been trained for anything else. And it's not like the hospitals offer comprehensive testing, either.

What this experience drove home to me is that I never had the chance to get diagnosed earlier anyway because Proactive For Her only started three or so years ago, opened first in Bangalore and came to my city only recently. They do offer fertility and pregnancy related care, but they equally offer menstrual healthcare and women's sexual healthcare. They're the only gynaecologists I know here who screen for vaginismus, for instance.

Now I'm waiting for my report. Can't wait to get some answers!

On a lighter note (or more creepy note), Instagram is already targeting me for PCOS supplements. On the one hand I haven't been diagnosed yet, on the other hand I have a hunch I will be, on the third hand Instagram is sooo spying on me because it knows just from me mentioning being tested for PCOS aloud, on the fourth hand perhaps being spied on is worth it if it's serving me up useful information because I wouldn't know where to go hunting for supplements and this way I have all the choices in front of me, and on the fifth hand I use Instagram as a shopping and jobsearching site and not a social media one anyway so it's fineeee.

Spent the weekend at the 51st CWRU Sci-Fi Movie Marathon.

Like last year, I used the OpenVibe app to auto-crosspost my liveblogging to both Mastodon and Bluesky. The app has threading now! So these are in slightly-longer chunks of text than last year, because I could split a longer reaction across multiple threads and post them all at once.

…But the overall text is shorter, in part because I swear the breaks between movies were seriously cut down this year. There was a lot of “I had a longer thought here, but the next thing is already starting, so I have to finish typing as fast as possible (with my coat draped over my phone so the light isn’t bothering everyone else) and hit send.”

Hey,

I built a website to solve a problem I've had since forever. To quickly be able to see upcoming digital release dates for Movies (and other media) without having to filter through all the low budget and low quality noise.

What makes my website unique is a proprietary points system to curate the listings.

I won't bore you with the details but everything gets ranked based on the meta data so I can predict and decide if it's worth displaying on the website or not. I've tried to make it as inclusive and none biased as possible and believe I've succeeded in a good balance, but I will continue to work on the logic to make it even better.

Another thing is the grid layout, this will quickly tell you exactly when content is available or if the date haven't been released yet.

I'm a solo dev and I'm active on it every day (just finished building the drop down filter menu).

There isn't a dedicated mobile version yet so strictly a desktop experience but it's in the books for the future.

check it out on: https://midloop.net/

Content Notes: no AO3 warnings apply. Descriptions of illness, choking, vomiting.
Creator Links: Ragazza_Guasto on AO3
Themes: Crack treated seriously, Pining, Getting back together, Canon LGBTQ+ characters, Angst with a happy ending

Summary: “Can you believe it? How the hell did he end up bagging her?”

Ilya stared, brain not comprehending what his body already seemed to, that Hollander was dating-

“Rose fuckin’ Landry! How does the lamest guy in the League-”

He knew that smile. He thought it was for him, just for him. But it wasn't.

“No,” he whispered. His stomach spasmed.

“You good, Roz?”

Why would he- How could he-

They were holding hands…

“Rozanov? What the fuck?”

He jumped up from the table and stumbled for the front door, just barely making it through before the first mass of petals came up. He heaved as he ran, trying desperately to get away from the pavement, somewhere he could hide what was happening.

Unfortunately, his teammates had followed, because of course they would. He saw a photo of Shane Hollander holding hands with a movie star and promptly threw up.

Who wouldn't be curious?

Reccer's Notes: Hanahaki disease, where a sufferer of unrequited love starts bringing up flowers, has to be one of the crackiest tropes ever. In this story Ilya develops Hanahaki after seeing the pics of Shane going out with Rose Landry. But it's not some gently romantic fluttering of petals from his lips, it's bloodily bringing up a hard, painful tulip bulb, then more flowers, more bulbs. I guess the trope always has a potentially serious outcome (death vs requited love) but to me the "treated seriously" aspects here are the medical details and treatment, the painful and unromantic way the disease affects Ilya, and the way the fic cleverly incorporates his family history, via his mother. Ilya gets very sick indeed before Shane finds out, with inevitable results. Well written, and a great read.

Summary: It was many years since Bumblebee had taken a lover, and as he looked up at Ironhide, he could feel his body trembling. "What do you think we will become?"

Ironhide smiled, and the familiar metallic sound of that motion made Bumblebee shiver. "I don't know, 'Bee. But I can't wait to find out."

Author’s Notes: Perhaps I am more comfortable writing porn with no recognizable gonads????

Reccer's Notes:

Bumblebee's first partner-- so long ago-- had been a sweet thing, and the result of their coupling-- a windmill, turning lazily in the winds of Cybertron-- had been as gentle and solid as their relationship. Once, in the later days of the war, Bumblebee had thrown caution to the wind and mated with an old friend turned traitor, temporary truce formed through their mutual desperation. The result had been a ravenous sawmill, capable of churning through any kind of metal. The sheer power had been intoxicating, but afterward, Bumblebee had felt empty, used. Lonely.

But so many years later, curving up against Ironhide's warm bulk, he knew this would be different. He knew they couldn't help but become something wonderful.

This is another fandom where I scarcely go (and therefore don’t know how common this trope is), but transformation and fusion here become an ecstatic discovery in ways that anticipate Steven Universe. (And don’t miss the avalanche of gleeful bawdy squee in the comments!)

I'm watching Banshee (tv, I know but this applies to movies) and one scene reminded me of something that always pulls me out of my immersion during a movie or show.

There's a scene where a car skids to a stop and the main characters pile into it and speed away. As they peel out, you can see multiple sets of the skids from previous takes, and it immediately makes me go "oh, they must have had to do that a couple times. "

Can anyone think of some of the more egregious examples of this in cinema or TV?

Constantine | John Strikes A Deal With Satan

This is still one of my favorite forms of Lucifer. Sure they messed up Constantine up as he is supposed to have blonde hair, but still. The overall Lucifer portrayal in this movie was done very well. What do you think. If not, what was bad about it? I think Watchmojo even had this in the top 10 version of devil/Lucifer too.

So I thought I was rewatching this movie today… except I hadn’t actually seen it before. Whoops.

This movie is insane. I was ugly crying half the time, and hours later I’m still thinking about it. Every scene I’m like, this is absolutely terrifying. Kept waiting for someone to fall into a crevasse early on but it was just a nightmare in slow motion.

It’s amazing but also so sad that it’s based on true events. And apparently survivors say the movie ‘toned it down’… like, hold up, the chaos was worse?? My brain cannot even.

Also, I’m curious—what are your favorite natural disaster movies?

I’ve probably watched Deep Impact, The Impossible, Twister, 2012, and Dante’s Peak a million times. The Happening was surprisingly fun too, but I’m looking for something with a little more “run for your life” action.

I’ve passed on the new ‘Twisters’ a ton, not sure if that’s work watching.

I love how much attention to detail was put into the fights in this movie. Too many "1 vs. numerous assailants" fights fall into the trap of having the opponents wait their turn to fight the hero. Here, while Neo is maneuvering to only have to fight one or two people at a time, the others are continually seeking to reengage him. During the Smiths fight, you can see all the other Smiths reacting in real time to Neo's every move.

Another challenge in movie fights is straddling the line between realism and aesthetic appeal. While I wouldn't call any of the fights realistic, they are believable within the rules of the Matrix where they take place. There are few moments when an action does not produce an expected reaction, which I think is the key to not taking the viewer out of immersion when watching a fight.

Finally, there is a fluidity and rhythm to the fighting that makes them transcend action into art (particularly the chateau scene). The movements are synced perfectly with the music, and the progression of the action tells a complete story over the course of the fight. The detailed planning and precise execution of everyone involved in these scenes shines though and has kept me coming back to rewatch them.

Challenge #8

Talk about your creative process.

I probably haven't written enough to have a process. The one thing that usually happens is that I have the first line and then the last line will come to me. So I only have to fill in the gap, don't I? Lol. The same thing would sometimes happen in a drabble.

If I'm writing I can only listen to classical music, nothing with words. I usually start at the beginning and add one thing after another. Though I will get inspired for paragraphs that I can fit in later. I have a working on version and a final one, the latter so I can keep track of how far I've gone.

I ran across something kind of cool today. (I'm of the right age to still say 'cool.')

This afternoon I was doing a little clean-up on Find A Grave, connecting linking some relatives to their parents. Name: Mathewson. Wife's maiden name: Howard.

When I was finished with that I found myself wondering if anyone had found where Levi Peach Howard was buried. Was he not in Erie County PA, with his closest relations?

Aha! He was on Finda and correctly linked now - buried in California. Oxnard, seaside city. :-)

I could now update some information on the family tree. As I was doing so, I found that I already had more specific information (not on Finda) on where several people were born. One of these was "Howard Falls, Franklin Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania."

Not expecting much, I google Howard Falls, and was very surprised by what I found.

The Howard Falls Trust

The "About" page tells the story of how the Howard family came to Pennsylvania and developed a quarry business at Howard Falls. The Henry Howard mentioned (with brother Levi) married my great-great grandfather's sister.

Challenge #6: Top 10 Challenge. The category(ies) you choose are up to you.

Have ten random fanworks I've read/watched/seen recently. I'm cutting this section for length, but it includes Tolkien fic and art and Star Wars art, fic, and a handful of fanfilms.

Challenge #7: LIST THREE (or more) THINGS YOU LIKE ABOUT YOURSELF. They don’t have to be your favorite things, just things that you think are good. Feel free to expand as much or as little as you want.

1. Creativity.
2. Taking active steps to be who I want to be.
3. Stubbornness.

Challenge 8: Challenge #8: Talk about your creative process.

My writing creative process these days is mostly mental screaming as I'm very much struggling with having the mental energy to write when I have an emotionally exhausting job. Basically, I write nothing for months, get a flash of inspiration, spend two weeks writing a 10k fic, and then go back to not writing.

Challenge 9: Talk about your favorite tropes in media or transformative works. (Feel free to substitute in theme/motif/cliche if "trope" doesn't resonate with you.)

I have always been fond of canon divergent AUs, hurt/comfort and whump, and I have an abiding love of Star Wars-Tolkien crossovers. I adore Maglor wandering in the modern day fanworks. I have a quiet love of rule 63/always-a-woman fics, especially for Maglor in The Silmarillion and Cal Kestis in Star Wars. (The latter pretty much doesn't exist, and it annoys me to no end that the game devs basically said that the reason Cal's not a woman is because they thought it was too unrelatable and no one would play the game.)

Challenge 10: Big Mood (Board) CHOOSE SOMETHING YOU LOVE AND CREATE A MINI MOOD COLLECTION OF THREE (or more) ITEMS THAT EVOKE YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT IT. You don’t have to limit yourself to visual media, or collect the items into a special format like a square (though you can if you’d like).

I'm going with Depa Billaba! She's my favorite minor character in Star Wars, specifically the Kanan comics version (there are three versions, two of which belong to Disney canon). I love her to pieces. In the comics, she carries a green lightsaber, but they also show how she's grown and healed after surviving a traumatic battle. She's drawn with a lot of plants in her chamber in the Jedi Temple. And the third link is for a fanart portrait that really captures her personality and it makes me happy to look at it.

I’m talking about films where everything feels grounded in reality. The procedures, dialogue, settings, and small behaviors all line up so well that you can tell the filmmakers went deep into their research. Even tiny details feel earned rather than added for drama. A 23 year-old movie, released when I was only 15, at the time its effects were groundbreaking, but unlike a lot of movies that are CGI heavy from that era, it holds up unbelievably well. Particularly impressive is the final swordfight between Barbossa and Jack where they interchange between the Cursed forms and their human forms in very quick succession with almost ZERO hint of editing etc. of the scene itself to disguise the CGI changes. Just truly incredible stuff.

Talk about your favourite tropes in media or transformative works. (Feel free to substitute in theme/motif/cliche if "trope" doesn't resonate with you.)

Where to start? Let's start with swashbuckling. That's a nice easy one. Really, I think my fannish id was formed by The Prisoner of Zenda at an early age (I am still very fond of The Prisoner of Zenda).

See also: Ruritania. I love a good fictional society, and the deeper we go into the government departments and the transport infrastructure, the happier I am.

And love and duty. I don't necessarily mind which triumphs, so long as both are taken seriously. I also love it when one of the arts - or sports, or whatever - is the third party in a relationship, particularly when the partners are both very enthusiastic about that. Not to mention the creator. (This was why I enjoyed Yuri!!! on Ice so much: it was very much about the skating.)

I like relationships between women, romantic or otherwise. And friendships between men and women where it's never going to become romantic.

And then I always enjoy a good description:
Food. Chalet School breakfasts. The Marseille chapter in Madam Will You Talk.
Clothes. Annoyingly, I can't think of a good example at this moment. Probably Eva Ibbotson.
Landscape. A John Buchan evening. Can't beat an apple-green twilight.

Finally, something that I write more often than I read is the situation where you will never be able either to clean up Dodge or to get out of Dodge, you have to live in Dodge, but nevertheless you can find a way to carve out a happy and/or meaningful life there. And maybe you find you've made it slightly less grubby.
